CHAKRATA CHAKRATA ( Dehradun ) Chakrata is a small town on a hill near Dehradun in Uttarakhand, located at an elevation of 6,948 feet and is famous for its coniferous forests, trekking, caves and ancient temples. With mountain climbing as one of the popular activities in Chakrata, it has also become a popular camping destination. With some beautiful waterfalls, especially Tiger Falls, Chakrata is a backpacker's paradise and an ideal location for people looking for quiet, unconventional destinations. The highest peak in the hills is Kharamba Peak, which sits at 10,000 feet and is surrounded by dense forests and the bounties of nature. Chakrata forests are home to diverse wildlife such as wild birds, tiger and spotted deer. Once a small Jaunsari village called Jaunsar Bawar, Chakrata overlooks the Yamuna Valley. Developed by East India Company executives, the venue also houses a military camp which makes access restricted for civilian travelers.
